Crossing Borders of Knowledge: International Office UIN SSC and ITEA-ICCCM Conduct Strategic Online Meeting for FDKI Student Exchange Preparation to Malaysia
Cirebon, October, 21st 2025 — As the much-anticipated student exchange program between UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon and ITEA-ICCCM Malaysia approaches, the International Office and Partnership UIN SSC has intensified its final preparations through a strategic online coordination meeting. The virtual session gathered representatives from both institutions, including student participants from the Faculty of Da’wah and Communication (FDKI). The meeting served as a crucial platform to discuss academic orientation, cultural adaptation, and institutional expectations prior to departure. Lala Bumela, Ph.D., Director of the International Office, highlighted the significance of comprehensive readiness in every aspect. “When we cross borders of knowledge, we also carry the values of our university and our faith. Preparation must be intellectual, emotional, and spiritual,” said Lala Bumela, Ph.D., emphasizing that global engagement requires not only skills but also integrity and self-awareness.
Despite the enthusiasm surrounding the exchange, the students faced one significant challenge during the preparation process — the language barrier. As communication with ITEA-ICCCM involved academic and administrative coordination in English, some students initially struggled to express their ideas fluently and comprehend technical terms in official documents. This barrier, however, became an opportunity for growth rather than a setback. The International Office, supported by the Global Engagement Team (GET), held intensive mentoring sessions and simulated discussions to strengthen students’ communication skills. Through these efforts, participants gradually developed confidence and clarity in using English, proving that perseverance and teamwork can turn challenges into valuable learning experiences—an essential quality for future global leaders.
During the meeting, Lala Bumela, Ph.D. opened an interactive dialogue with the participants, inviting them to share their concerns and aspirations. His words inspired confidence and a sense of purpose among the students. “This program is not just about studying abroad—it is about representing Indonesia’s academic spirit and learning to see the world through new perspectives,” he stated. He encouraged students to embody humility and curiosity while upholding the values of UIN SSC throughout their journey. The discussion also explored practical matters such as intercultural communication, Malaysian academic culture, and strategies for maintaining professionalism in an international environment.
Following this exchange of ideas, both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration. UIN SSC and ITEA-ICCCM plan to establish a sustainable academic framework that includes joint research, teaching initiatives, and reciprocal exchange programs. This long-term partnership will enhance cross-cultural understanding while positioning UIN SSC as a progressive institution in the global higher education landscape. The development also reflects UIN SSC’s continuous pursuit of meaningful engagement—connecting local knowledge with international opportunities.
As the departure date draws closer, the International Office has taken proactive steps to ensure that every logistical and academic requirement is handled smoothly. Students received mentoring sessions covering cultural etiquette, communication skills, and personal well-being while abroad. ITEA-ICCCM, in turn, expressed full readiness to welcome the students and support their academic integration in Malaysia. This collaboration demonstrates the strong synergy between the two institutions, where mutual trust and shared educational goals pave the way for a successful international partnership.
Concluding the meeting, Lala Bumela, Ph.D. conveyed his appreciation and confidence in the students’ readiness to embark on this journey. “Crossing borders of knowledge means more than moving physically—it means expanding our minds, nurturing empathy, and strengthening our sense of purpose,” he said. His closing words encapsulated the essence of UIN SSC’s international mission: to produce globally minded individuals who not only learn from the world but also contribute to it. With the dedication of both institutions and the spirit of collaboration, the upcoming student exchange stands as another milestone in UIN SSC’s ongoing commitment to excellence and global connectivity.
