Expanding Knowledge Frontiers: PIPD Team Joins IO UIN SSC’s AsiaCALL 2025 to Digitize and Curate Digital Content in Encyclopedia, Anthropology, and Philosophy for Worldwide Access
Cirebon, September, 22nd 2025 — As the countdown to AsiaCALL 2025 begins, Universitas Islam Negeri Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon (UIN SSC) is intensifying its preparations to host one of the region’s most anticipated academic conferences. Scheduled to take place in Cirebon in November 2025, AsiaCALL 2025 will bring together scholars, educators, and technology innovators from across Asia and beyond to discuss cutting-edge developments in digital pedagogy, artificial intelligence, and language learning for the 21st century. Under the leadership of Lala Bumela, Director of the International Office and Partnership at UIN SSC, the conference has been positioned not just as an event, but as a catalyst for knowledge exchange that blends local wisdom with global innovation. In this context, the International Office has formally invited the PIPD (Pusat Inovasi Pembelajaran Digital) team of UIN SSC to collaborate on the development of digital content that integrates encyclopedic knowledge, anthropology, and philosophy to reach audiences worldwide. This collaboration will also involve strategic discussions with the Global Engagement Team (GET), ensuring that the digitalization process reflects UIN SSC’s multicultural and multidisciplinary strengths. “AsiaCALL 2025 will highlight local wisdom alongside cutting-edge artificial intelligence tools for 21st-century learning, especially in the field of language. The conference already has 92 abstracts submitted by 190 authors from 14 countries, with participants and presenters representing a truly international spectrum,” said Lala Bumela.
Lala Bumela emphasized that involving PIPD in AsiaCALL 2025 marks a strategic step toward strengthening UIN SSC’s role in shaping future-oriented education. Through this collaboration, UIN SSC aims to establish itself as a hub for digital innovation in academia. “We are not only hosting an international conference,” he explained, “but also shaping a platform where diverse knowledge traditions meet advanced technology. This approach ensures that UIN SSC can act as a bridge between Indonesia’s rich intellectual heritage and the international academic community, as reflected in the broad global participation of AsiaCALL 2025.”
According to Lala Bumela, AsiaCALL 2025 will become a showcase of how universities can bridge local heritage and global access through digital learning. He stated that the inclusion of anthropology, philosophy, and encyclopedic perspectives ensures that the content curated by UIN SSC and PIPD will be both academically rigorous and culturally grounded. “With 14 countries already represented in the conference, this is how we project Indonesian scholarship onto the world stage,” he noted.
Meanwhile, the PIPD team, renowned for its innovative approaches to digital learning and instructional technology, is already developing plans to transform traditional knowledge repositories into dynamic, interactive, and multilingual digital content. This includes designing user-friendly platforms that allow easy access to encyclopedic entries, anthropological case studies, and philosophical treatises, enhanced with multimedia features such as video lectures, virtual exhibitions, and AI-powered search tools. Their collaboration with GET will also ensure that this content is culturally sensitive, pedagogically sound, and tailored to the needs of a global audience. By integrating these diverse elements, PIPD aims to create a model for how higher education institutions can harness digital technology to expand the frontiers of knowledge.
AsiaCALL 2025 itself is envisioned as more than a traditional academic conference. It will feature plenary sessions, panel discussions, workshops, and live demonstrations where participants can explore innovative digital teaching and learning tools. A special emphasis will be placed on showcasing local wisdom from various regions of Indonesia, demonstrating how these traditions can inform and enrich modern pedagogical practices. This aligns closely with UIN SSC’s broader mission of internationalization, which seeks not only to bring the world to Cirebon but also to take Cirebon’s intellectual and cultural heritage to the world. Through its collaboration with PIPD, the International Office plans to use AsiaCALL 2025 as a launchpad for its new digital initiatives, effectively turning the conference into a living laboratory for 21st-century education.
In his closing remarks about the initiative, Lala Bumela expressed his optimism about the long-term impact of this collaboration. “With the combined expertise of the International Office, the Global Engagement Team, and PIPD, we can create digital content that transcends borders and inspires educators worldwide,” he said. He also highlighted that this effort reflects UIN SSC’s transformation into a leading cyber university that connects tradition, technology, and global scholarship.
