Global Engagement Team Members Sharpen Confidence and International Communication Skills Through Intensive AsiaCALL 2025 Training Session

Cirebon, November 8, 2025 — The Global Engagement Team (GET) of the International Office UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon held their first training session in preparation for their upcoming roles as presenters and moderators at the AsiaCALL 2025 International Conference. The session took place at the International Office and the conference room on the 5th floor of the Cyber Building. The activity aimed to develop members’ confidence, public speaking skills, and mastery of presentation materials. This initiative was part of the university’s effort to ensure professional and globally minded student participation during the conference. The participants were enthusiastic about improving their communication and stage presence. The event marked the beginning of their journey toward becoming confident young representatives of UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon on the international stage.

Unlike formal workshops, this training was fully organized by the GET members themselves. The members who already had experience in public communication guided their peers through practical exercises and peer feedback. Each participant practiced introducing speakers, managing transitions, and handling Q&A sessions—all in English. The team also learned how to maintain composure and clarity under pressure, simulating real conference situations. Although informal, the training emphasized collaboration and self-assessment as essential learning methods. Through this peer-led approach, members discovered both their strengths and areas for improvement. It was a supportive environment that encouraged mutual growth and leadership.

The training also included basic simulations using microphones to help participants get used to speaking in front of an audience. The relaxed atmosphere reflected the fact that it was still an early rehearsal, giving everyone the chance to experiment and learn comfortably. Some participants expressed nervousness, but the overall spirit was optimistic and filled with laughter. According to several GET members, practicing together made them feel more connected as a team. The sense of camaraderie and shared purpose motivated them to perform better in the next sessions. Everyone agreed that confidence could only grow through practice and constructive feedback.

Lala Bumela Sudimantara, Ph.D., Director of the International Office, was also present to observe the training and offer guidance. He provided personal feedback to several participants, especially on voice clarity and articulation. “When you speak in an international setting, your message should sound confident, but also warm and inviting,” he advised in a semi-formal tone. His feedback was well-received, motivating the trainees to refine their delivery. Lala Bumela, Ph.D. also praised the GET members’ initiative and dedication. He expressed appreciation for their efforts to learn independently and to prepare themselves professionally. His presence added a sense of encouragement and pride to the practice session.

The participants’ improvement throughout the training reflected their growing sense of professionalism and teamwork. Lala Bumela, Ph.D. observed that the GET members were able to adapt quickly and respond well to feedback, showing strong potential to perform on an international stage. He noted that this activity demonstrated how student-led initiatives could foster both skill and confidence. The session also highlighted the importance of practice and reflection in developing communication competence. With consistent preparation, the GET members are expected to perform fluently and gracefully during the conference. Their dedication set an inspiring example for other student organizations within the university.

The GET members will officially serve as committees, presenters, and moderators during the AsiaCALL 2025 on Friday-Sunday, November 14-16, 2025. As part of UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon’s internationalization efforts, their involvement highlights the university’s trust in student capability and global readiness. Lala Bumela, Ph.D. expressed his hope that the experience would become a meaningful stepping stone for the students’ future. “I hope that through their involvement in AsiaCALL, whether as committee members, presenters, or moderators, our GET members will gain valuable experience that prepares them for future global opportunities,” he said. The training ended with optimism and a strong sense of commitment. The International Office plans to continue similar initiatives to prepare more students for international academic exposure.
