International Office of UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon Strengthens Coordination for SN-GES 2025: Pre-Interview with the Applicants from Philippines
Cirebon, May 7, 2024 — The International Office & Partnership of UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon hosted an online pre-interview session for prospective awardees of the Syekh Nurjati Global Excellence Scholarship (SN‑GES) 2025. The event was attended by four international participants from the Philippines: Maja Asleah Lindongoan Salisipan, Nadja Querod Cabuyao, Paojia Cabuyao Sucatan, and Jadene Querod Zainal. This activity highlighted the office's key role in facilitating communication and preparation for international candidates with various university units. The participants came from diverse academic backgrounds—ranging from Biology Education to English Language Education—reflecting the global reach of UIN SSC's study programs. Their enthusiasm was evident in the quality of their questions and clarity of responses throughout the session.
The session was opened by Lala Bumela Sudimantara, Ph.D., Director of the International Office & Partnership, who explained the technical aspects of the pre-interview assessment. “We want to ensure that all applicants are well-prepared academically, personally, and culturally before they arrive in Indonesia,” said Lala Bumela Sudimantara, Ph.D. He presented the five assessment stages based on the SN‑GES 2025 Pre-Interview Guidelines and Instruments, which include self-introduction, study commitment, and future contribution plans. Each stage was designed to evaluate how well the candidate's vision aligns with UIN SSC's Global Excellence values. Close collaboration with the university’s recruitment team was also emphasized to ensure a transparent and professional process.
The International Office team also introduced the ten assessment criteria used during the pre-interview process. These include academic readiness, leadership experience, communication skills, and personal integrity. Scores were assigned on a scale from 10 to 50 to allow in-depth evaluation in each category. For instance, in the study commitment section, evaluators assessed each candidate’s ability to manage time, resources, and cultural adaptation while studying in a new environment. Preliminary results showed that all four participants scored above 45, indicating strong potential and qualifications.
Maja Asleah Lindongoan Salisipan earned the highest score of 49 points, due to her strong research interest in Biology and passion for scientific photography. Nadja Querod Cabuyao and Paojia Cabuyao Sucatan—both from the English Language Education program—each scored 45 points, praised for their fluency and confidence in English communication. Meanwhile, Jadene Querod Zainal achieved a score of 47, showing deep commitment to developing innovative teaching methods. These results affirm that the pre-interview selection process was both competitive and fair, ensuring that only the most qualified candidates advance. The participants also expressed appreciation for the constructive feedback provided by the team.
The next phase for the candidates will be a program-specific interview with the heads of their respective academic departments. The International Office will assist in scheduling virtual meetings to ensure each candidate has the opportunity to connect with academic staff. This stage will focus on academic alignment, research potential, and post-graduation community engagement plans. Candidates will also receive preparatory guidance to help them effectively present their vision and goals. The full selection process is expected to be completed by the end of May 2025 to allow time for administrative arrangements.
In addition to the selection process, the International Office & Partnership is actively strengthening its international collaboration network to enhance services for global students. The office maintains ongoing communication with overseas partner institutions to promote research collaboration and cultural exchange opportunities. These efforts align with UIN SSC’s vision of becoming an inclusive and globally engaged university. “Our hope is that SN‑GES graduates will bring positive contributions to both countries,” added Lala Bumela Sudimantara, Ph.D. This commitment shows that the office serves not only as a scholarship coordinator, but also as a long-term companion for international students.
The pre-interview session concluded with a sense of optimism from all parties about the continuation of the scholarship program. All four participants expressed gratitude for the professionalism of the International Office team and shared their excitement about beginning their studies in Cirebon. The office reaffirmed its readiness to welcome the second batch of SN‑GES recipients in August 2025. With strong collaboration and commitment, UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon continues to grow as a dynamic and globally competitive academic community.
