Realizing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education with AIA Insurance
Cirebon, June 3, 2025 — The International Office of UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon (UINSSC) held a strategic online meeting with AIA Insurance. The session was led by the Head of the International Office, Lala Bumela Sudimantara, Ph.D. and attended by key representatives, including, Mr. Laurens, Mr. Argo, and Mrs. Roma. The discussion centered around enhancing student welfare, academic support, and outreach initiatives through health insurance programs—an effort aligned with all three pillars of Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi.
One of the primary focuses of the meeting was the introduction of AIA’s comprehensive health insurance package tailored for international students at UINSSC. This initiative directly supports the first pillar of Tri Dharma is education. “We believe that access to quality healthcare is essential for students to perform well academically,” said Lala Bumela Sudimantara, Ph.D. during the meeting. The insurance plan includes inpatient care, surgery, ICU treatment up to 20 days, repatriation benefits, and affordable premiums adjusted to university standards. By ensuring students’ physical well-being, UINSSC fosters a healthier learning environment.
The second pillar of Tri Dharma is research, was also addressed during the discussion. AIA expressed interest in collaborating with the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEBI) to conduct studies on financial literacy and economic empowerment through insurance-based education. Additionally, the partnership opens opportunities for faculty and students to engage in joint research projects related to global health, migration, and socio-economic integration. These collaborations will not only enrich academic inquiry but also contribute to policy development and institutional knowledge.
Mr. Argo highlighted the growing number of international students arriving from conflict zones such as Sudan, Yemen, Syria, and Nigeria. These students are being processed under the national refugee (regnotis) status due to ongoing crises in their home countries. The International Office is working closely with Cirebon Immigration to ensure their safe and legal entry. Through this collaboration with AIA, these students will gain access to necessary healthcare services, promoting inclusivity and social equity, key elements of the third pillar of Tri Dharma is community service and societal engagement.
AIA also presented its claim and reimbursement mechanisms, which aim to simplify access to medical services for both students and staff. Inpatient treatments will be handled cashlessly, while outpatient care follows a reimbursement process based on hospital invoices and prescriptions. Mrs. Roma emphasized transparency in the system: “Our goal is to make healthcare accessible without burdening students or staff.” Although UIN SSC does not yet have an e-voucher system, it is currently preparing campus profiles and employee data to support future implementation.
As part of the next steps, both parties agreed to organize joint initiatives such as insurance workshops, financial literacy programs, and health training sessions. These activities will help demystify insurance among international students and promote healthier lifestyles through partnerships with AIA’s affiliated hospitals and clinics. Such outreach efforts align perfectly with the community service component of Tri Dharma, reinforcing UINSSC’s role in fostering global citizenship and intercultural understanding.
Looking ahead, the International Office plans to coordinate further with Deputy Rector III to explore extending insurance coverage to KIP (Kartu Indonesia Pintar) scholarship students. This expansion reflects UINSSC’s commitment to inclusive education and social responsibility. By integrating insurance solutions into academic life, the university continues to innovate in teaching, research, and community service—showcasing a holistic realization of Tri Dharma .
This successful meeting underscores the International Office’s pivotal role in bridging global partnerships with local academic missions. It highlights UINSSC’s proactive approach in addressing the evolving needs of its diverse student population while staying true to the principles of higher education. Through continuous innovation and collaboration, UINSSC remains committed to excellence across all dimensions of Tri Dharma . The partnership with AIA represents a promising model of how universities can work hand-in-hand with industry leaders to create real-world impact.
