The International Office of UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon Conducts Comprehensive Housing Survey for SN-GES Scholarship Students at Ma’had to Enhance Living Standards and Student Well-Being
Friday, August 22, 2025 – The International Office of UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon, led by Lala Bumela Sudimantara, Ph.D., Director of the International Office, carried out a housing survey for international students receiving the SN-GES scholarships. The activity took place at Ma’had UINSSC, with the aim of ensuring that living facilities meet the standards and needs of the scholarship recipients. Staff members from the International Office were directly involved, visiting the housing areas to gather first-hand insights. During the visit, they were welcomed by Pak Muhsin Riyadi, the Mudir (Director) of Ma’had UINSSC, with whom they discussed ongoing collaboration between the Ma’had and the International Office to enhance student support services. The visit was not only a routine check but also a way to strengthen the university’s commitment to supporting international students’ well-being and fostering stronger institutional coordination in providing a conducive living and learning environment.
During the survey at Ma’had UINSSC, the International Office team engaged with housing providers to assess facilities such as room conditions, internet access, security, and communal spaces. These aspects are considered essential to help international students adapt to a new academic and cultural environment. The team also reviewed accessibility to public services and transportation, which are crucial for students’ daily mobility. Through this direct observation, the office ensured that the housing offered is both comfortable and conducive to academic success.
The scholarship students, many of whom are experiencing life in a new country for the first time, will rely heavily on the quality of their accommodation. “We want to make sure that every international student feels at home while studying here,” said Lala Bumela Sudimantara, Ph.D. during the visit. The survey also included informal discussions with students already living in Ma’had UINSSC, allowing them to share personal experiences and concerns. This direct feedback became valuable input for future improvements in housing management.
Beyond physical inspections, the International Office also paid attention to the cultural and social aspects of student housing. They looked into opportunities for intercultural exchange within the accommodation, such as shared kitchens or community events that can foster friendships. These opportunities are vital for international students, who often seek a sense of belonging in a new academic and cultural landscape. Creating a balance between privacy and social interaction was one of the key priorities highlighted by the team.
Another important focus of the survey was safety and security. The International Office ensured that each housing option, particularly Ma’had UINSSC, had adequate safety measures, including proper lighting, secure entrances, and emergency facilities. By working closely with housing providers, the office emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe environment that reassures both students and their families abroad. This step reflects the university’s holistic approach to supporting international students beyond the classroom.
The survey was not limited to evaluating current facilities but also explored potential housing developments for the coming academic year. With the increasing number of international students supported by the SN-GES scholarships, the International Office recognized the need for expanded and improved accommodation. The visit provided a clearer picture of the challenges and opportunities ahead, helping the office design better housing strategies. It also served as an opportunity to build stronger collaborations with external housing providers.
At the end of the activity, the International Office, represented Lala Bumela Sudimantara, Ph.D. reaffirmed its role as a bridge between international students and the university community. By addressing housing issues proactively, the office showed its dedication to ensuring that students feel secure, supported, and motivated to achieve their academic goals. The survey results will be compiled and shared with relevant stakeholders to support continuous improvement.
Through initiatives like this, the International Office highlights its central mission: to provide comprehensive support that extends beyond academic matters. Housing is more than just a place to stay, it is the foundation for a successful study experience abroad. With this proactive step, the office demonstrates its ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for international students receiving the SN-GES scholarships.
