The International Office of UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon Establishes International Collaboration with Charles Darwin University to Support Academic Seminar Organized by the English Education Department
Cirebon, May 20, 2026 – Under the visionary leadership of Lala Bumela Sudimantara, Ph.D., Director of the International Office of UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon (UINSSC), the university continues to strengthen its international engagement through a significant academic collaboration with Charles Darwin University. Recognizing the importance of creating global academic opportunities for students and faculty members, the International Office proactively initiated communication and partnership efforts with Charles Darwin University to support an international seminar organized by the English Education Department (Tadris Bahasa Inggris) of UINSSC. The seminar, entitled “Hidden Curriculum for Sustainable Learning in ELT: Deep Learning & Love-Based Curriculum,” is scheduled to take place on 20 May 2026 at the UINSSC Postgraduate Auditorium, Room 3. The event will feature distinguished academic speakers, including Lala Bumela Sudimantara, Ph.D., who will serve as a keynote speaker presenting “Regenerative Multisensory CALL: A Framework for Deep Learning that Honors Brain, Culture and Ecology.” Through the invitation extended by the International Office, Jian Wu, a doctoral student from Charles Darwin University, will present his research entitled “Emotional and Neuroaesthetic Approaches to Evaluating and Teaching Abstract Reasoning of Pre-Service Teachers.” The seminar will also welcome Ginawati Samari, a teacher from MTsN 1 Cirebon and a proud UINSSC alumna. In addition, Dra. Hj. Amroh Umaemah will deliver the opening speech as Head of the English Education Department. The event is expected to gather approximately 200 English Education students from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 cohorts, creating a vibrant academic atmosphere that bridges local educational aspirations with international scholarly perspectives. Reflecting on the significance of this initiative, Lala Bumela Sudimantara, Ph.D. stated, “International collaboration is not merely about connecting institutions across borders; it is about creating meaningful academic ecosystems where knowledge, culture, innovation, and humanity can grow together. Through this partnership with Charles Darwin University, we aim to provide our students with direct exposure to global scholarly conversations and inspire them to become future educators who are intellectually excellent and globally engaged.”
The journey toward realizing this international seminar was not without challenges. Organizing a cross-border academic collaboration required intensive coordination across different institutions, academic schedules, administrative procedures, and geographical distances. The International Office had to ensure effective communication between UINSSC and Charles Darwin University while simultaneously supporting the needs of the English Education Department in preparing a high-quality academic event. Time zone differences, institutional protocols, speaker arrangements, and logistical considerations demanded extraordinary commitment from all parties involved. Nevertheless, under the guidance of Lala Bumela Sudimantara, Ph.D., these challenges were approached not as obstacles but as opportunities to demonstrate UINSSC’s growing capacity to engage in meaningful international partnerships. The determination to bring international scholars and perspectives into the university environment reflected a broader vision of transforming UINSSC into a globally connected institution capable of facilitating world-class academic experiences for its students.
Throughout the preparation process, continuous dialogue became a cornerstone of the collaboration. Constructive discussions were conducted between the International Office, the English Education Department, Charles Darwin University, invited speakers, and university stakeholders to ensure that the seminar would deliver both academic excellence and practical relevance. These conversations focused on identifying contemporary issues in English Language Teaching, exploring innovative pedagogical approaches, and ensuring that the seminar theme would resonate with future educators facing increasingly complex educational environments. The dialogue also highlighted shared commitments to sustainable learning, emotional engagement in education, deep learning frameworks, and culturally responsive pedagogical practices. Such exchanges not only strengthened institutional cooperation but also fostered intellectual relationships that may lead to future collaborative research, academic mobility programs, and broader international partnerships between UINSSC and institutions abroad.
As preparations progressed, the collaboration developed into a powerful example of how internationalization can directly benefit students and academic communities. The involvement of Charles Darwin University, facilitated through the dedicated efforts of the International Office, elevated the seminar’s academic profile and created opportunities for participants to engage with emerging research perspectives from an international context. The presence of Jian Wu, alongside local educational practitioners and academic leaders, reflects a multidisciplinary approach to educational development that combines neuroscience, emotion, technology-enhanced learning, and sustainable pedagogical practices. Under the leadership of Lala Bumela Sudimantara, Ph.D., the International Office has consistently sought opportunities that connect UINSSC students with global academic networks and contemporary scholarly discourse. Speaking about the broader significance of the event, he remarked, “Our responsibility as an International Office extends beyond administrative collaboration. We must actively create transformative learning opportunities that allow students to encounter new ideas, engage with international scholars, and participate in conversations that shape the future of education. This seminar represents one meaningful step toward that vision.”
The successful realization of this collaboration demonstrates the growing international presence of UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon and reinforces its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and global engagement. By bringing together university leaders, researchers, educators, alumni, and students within a single academic forum, the seminar serves as a platform for intellectual exchange and professional development. More importantly, it exemplifies how strategic international partnerships can enrich educational experiences and contribute to the development of future educators equipped to address local and global challenges. The collaboration also highlights the important role played by the International Office in expanding international networks and ensuring that UINSSC remains actively engaged in global academic conversations.
Ultimately, this initiative conveys a powerful message about the transformative potential of collaboration, vision, and educational leadership. Through the commitment shown by the International Office under the direction of Lala Bumela Sudimantara, Ph.D., and through the willingness of Charles Darwin University and the English Education Department to work together, the seminar stands as a testament to the value of building bridges across institutions, cultures, and disciplines. The event reminds students that meaningful learning flourishes when knowledge is shared openly and when educational communities embrace both local wisdom and global perspectives. As emphasized by Lala Bumela Sudimantara, Ph.D., “Education reaches its highest purpose when it nurtures not only intellectual growth but also empathy, cultural understanding, and a deep sense of responsibility toward humanity. International collaboration enables us to cultivate these values while preparing students to contribute meaningfully to an interconnected world.”
