Cirebon, September 17, 2024 —The International Office (IO) of UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon became the center of an exciting international exchange. From the 5th floor of the Siber Building, Lala Bumela, Ph.D., Head of the International Office, held a virtual strategy meeting with Assoc. Prof. Pham Vu Phi Ho, Ph.D., from Van Lang University, Vietnam. Their discussion focused on the fast-approaching AsiaCALL 2025 International Conference, a landmark event in the field of computer-assisted language learning. Both leaders expressed their delight in reporting that the conference has already received 92 accepted abstracts, contributed by 190 authors representing 14 countries around the world.
The atmosphere of the meeting was one of excitement and shared purpose. Lala Bumela, Ph.D., opened by warmly welcoming Assoc. Prof. Pham, said, “It is inspiring to see how AsiaCALL continues to unite scholars from so many corners of the world.” Assoc. Prof. Pham responded with equal enthusiasm, highlighting the significance of this year’s global participation. Together, they celebrated the diverse range of voices—from seasoned academics to young researchers who will bring fresh ideas and innovative practices to the conference.
Beyond reviewing the impressive submission numbers, the two professors explored key strategies to ensure the event’s academic impact. They discussed session scheduling, keynote arrangements, and opportunities for cross-border research partnerships. Particular attention was given to providing space for both online and on-site presenters, allowing AsiaCALL to remain accessible to participants regardless of geography. They also highlighted the importance of creating interactive workshops and special interest groups, where educators and researchers can exchange practical teaching methods and technological insights.
Another important topic was cultural and academic diversity. With contributors spanning 14 countries, including nations across Asia, Europe, and the Pacific, the meeting underscored how AsiaCALL serves as a bridge for international collaboration. Lala Bumela, Ph.D., emphasized the need for sessions that encourage dialogue across different educational contexts, while Assoc. Prof. Pham suggested panel discussions on emerging trends in artificial intelligence, language learning analytics, and multilingual education. Both leaders agreed that the diversity of voices will enrich the conference and inspire participants to adopt more inclusive approaches to language education.
The professors also focused on ensuring a smooth experience for the 190 authors and their institutions. They discussed technical preparations for hybrid presentations, the use of digital platforms for global networking, and the importance of timely communication with authors. Plans were set in motion to provide clear guidance on presentation formats and to offer rehearsal opportunities for online speakers. This careful planning reflects the International Office’s commitment to professionalism and its dedication to making AsiaCALL 2025 a seamless, world-class event.
Looking ahead, Lala Bumela Ph.D., and Assoc. Prof. Pham envisioned how AsiaCALL could foster long-term partnerships beyond the conference itself. They explored ideas for joint publications, collaborative research grants, and student exchange opportunities between UIN Siber and Van Lang University. These initiatives, they noted, would help sustain the momentum generated by the conference and strengthen academic ties across borders. “AsiaCALL is not just a conference but it is a community,” Lala Bumela Ph.D., remarked, underscoring the event’s role as a catalyst for lasting international relationships.
The meeting concluded on a hopeful and celebratory note. Both leaders expressed confidence that AsiaCALL 2025 will not only showcase groundbreaking research but also create an environment of genuine human connection and shared learning. The International Office at UIN Siber, through its strong coordination and visionary leadership, stands at the heart of this effort bringing together 92 abstracts, 190 authors, and 14 nations in a powerful demonstration of global academic solidarity. As the digital call ended, the sense of anticipation for November’s conference was palpable, promising an event that will elevate language learning research and collaboration to new heights.
Through this productive dialogue, the International Office of UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon reaffirmed its mission to foster international partnerships and scholarly exchange.
